In Standard mode, dictation transcripts are stored and audio is kept for up to 60 days. Stored dictations may improve Speech.

Privacy Mode skips saved dictation audio and transcripts, including local dictation history. Processing remains online.

Which devices can I use?

Download Speech for macOS 13+ on Apple Silicon or Intel, 64-bit Windows 10 and 11, or Android through Google Play. iOS is coming soon. Features differ by platform.

Which languages does Speech recognise?

Speech’s current recognition engine covers English and 22 Indian languages, including mixed Hindi and English. Recognition coverage differs from the written-output choices available in each app. See the language guide.

How do Notes and Notetaker differ?

Notes is your space to type or dictate an idea and keep editing it. Meeting notetaker captures a conversation into a transcript with notes, summaries and related tools. Notetaker requires access enabled for your account; the Mac workflow includes Buddy and Ask AI.

Does Speech need an internet connection?

Yes. Transcription and cleanup use online services. Privacy Mode changes retention; it does not make recognition offline.

Will dictation work in my apps?

Focus the text field where you want your words to go. Some apps and protected fields behave differently. On Android, Speech’s bubble stays out of password and payment apps. Visit Support if you need help.

What should I know before installing on Windows?

The Windows EXE is unsigned, so Windows may show a publisher or security prompt. Read the installation help before installing.
