Speech is made by Rupees Venture Private Limited in Indore, India. If it breaks, or it writes something you did not say, tell us. Both are things we want to know about, and the second one we treat as a defect rather than a quirk.

Reach a human

Write to support@rupees.com. We try to answer within two working days. Tell us which app you were dictating into and roughly when, because that is usually enough for us to find the request in our own logs.

Quicker, and easier on both of us: Report a bug from inside the app. On Mac it is in the sidebar, or Control Option Command B from anywhere. It carries the technical detail we would otherwise have to write back and ask you for.

Common things

I hold the key and nothing appears

Speech needs two permissions on macOS and it needs both of them: Microphone to hear you, and Accessibility to put the text where your cursor is. They live in System Settings, under Privacy & Security. If both are granted and it still does nothing, quit Speech and open it again once: macOS often hands a newly granted permission to an app only on its next launch.

macOS says it cannot verify the app

It should not, because current builds are signed and notarized with Apple. If you are on an older one, Control-click Speech in Applications and choose Open, then pick up the current version from the downloads page.

Installing on Windows

Download the Windows installer, run it, and sign in when Speech opens. The setup walks you through the microphone and typing checks.

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows may warn you about an unknown publisher, and a managed work PC may refuse it outright. If it is blocked, write to us. To update a copy you downloaded directly, run the latest installer from the same page.

“Limit reached”

There are two ceilings and they do different jobs. A daily one bounds a single bad day, and it clears itself on a rolling 24-hour basis. A monthly one is the allowance your plan comes with; the free plan includes three hours a month, and dictation on Android is not metered at all. Both are visible on your account page.

If you regularly need more than your allowance, email us. Raising it for one person takes us about two minutes, and we would rather do that than have you fighting the product.

It typed something I did not say

Report it. Speech is built on the rule that it does not invent words, so this is a defect and we want to reproduce it. A bug report sent from inside the app right afterwards carries what we need.

I want my data deleted

See Delete your account. You can do it yourself from inside the app. It happens immediately and it cannot be undone.
