Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Rupees Venture Private Limited ("Rupees", "we", "us"), Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, and they cover your use of the Speech dictation app and the service behind it at speech.si. Creating an account or using Speech means you accept them. If you would rather not, please do not use Speech.

What happens to your data is a separate document and a longer one: our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

1. What Speech is

While you hold its shortcut, Speech records what you say, sends that audio to our servers, turns it into written text, tidies away the stumbles, and puts the result at your cursor. The transcription and the tidying run on our servers and on models operated by third parties on our behalf, listed in the Privacy Policy, so Speech needs an internet connection and does not work offline.

It is a tool that turns speech into text. It is not a source of advice and it does not check anything you say. Reading what it typed before you send, sign, publish or act on it is your job.

2. Accuracy, and what we do not promise

Speech is built on a firm rule: it does not invent words. It cleans up hesitation and formatting, never content. Even so, automatic transcription gets things wrong, and it gets them wrong most often with names, numbers, technical terms, accents and noisy rooms.

So we do not warrant that the output will be accurate or complete, and Speech must not be relied on anywhere a transcription error could cause harm. That includes, without limiting it, medical, legal, financial, safety-critical and emergency use. Check the text.

3. Your account

• You must be 18 or older. Speech is not directed at children.
• Use an email address you control. We sign you in with a code sent to it, or through your Google account, so whoever can read that inbox can reach your account.
• Your account carries an API key that lets any app dictate as you and spends against your limits. Treat it as you would a password: do not share it, do not publish it. What happens under your account and key is your responsibility, unless our own failure caused it.
• One account belongs to one person. Do not share an account across a team, and do not resell access.
• If you think somebody else is using your account, tell us at support@rupees.com.

4. Fair use, allowances and limits

Every minute of audio costs us money at our transcription provider, so there are two ceilings and they do different jobs.

• A daily one bounds a single bad day. Each account may send only so much audio in a rolling 24-hour period; when you reach it, dictation pauses until the window rolls forward.
• A monthly allowance comes with your plan, and the plan pages say what it is. Dictation on Android is not metered on any plan.

You can see your own usage against both on your account page. The limits sit well above ordinary use, and we will raise one for an individual on request rather than have you working around the product. We may adjust them, and we may lower one for an account that is plainly not a person dictating.

5. What you may not do

• Record anybody without the consent the law where you are requires. Speech records only while you hold its shortcut; what you choose to point it at is your responsibility.
• Dictate content that is unlawful, or that infringes somebody else's rights.
• Use Speech to produce material that harasses, defrauds or impersonates somebody.
• Automate, replay or script traffic against the service, or run it as a bulk transcription pipeline. Speech is for a person dictating.
• Work around the limits, the authentication or the per-account metering; probe or attack the service; or use another person's account or key.
• Resell, sublicense or white-label the service, or use it to build a competing transcription service.
• Reverse engineer the app, except where the law expressly allows it.

6. Your content, and the permission you give us

What you dictate stays yours. We claim no ownership of your audio or of the text Speech makes from it.

To run the service at all we need your permission to handle it: to receive your audio, pass it to the providers who transcribe and format it, return the text to you, and store your history where you have chosen to keep it. In Standard mode we also use your transcripts to improve Speech's own accuracy and models. In Privacy Mode your audio and transcripts are discarded as soon as they are transcribed and nothing is kept.

We do not sell your content and we do not use it to train anybody else's models. You can switch modes in the app whenever you like, and delete everything whenever you like. The full detail, retention periods included, is in the Privacy Policy.

7. Plans and payment

Speech has a free plan and paid plans. The pricing page is where the current prices and allowances live, in rupees for India and in dollars elsewhere, and it is the version that applies.

Nobody is charged without agreeing to a specific price first. There is no card on file and no automatic upgrade: a paid plan starts when you ask for one and agree to what it costs. If we change a price, existing subscribers get reasonable notice by email before it affects them, and can cancel instead.

Billing, refund and cancellation terms will be set out here as self-serve payment arrives. Their absence today is not a promise that the free plan stays as it is forever, and any change to it will be announced before it takes effect.

8. Availability and changes

We run Speech as reliably as we can, but we offer no uptime guarantee. It may be unavailable for maintenance, for a provider's outage, or for a failure of our own.

We may add, change or remove features. Some are explicitly early access and may behave unpredictably or disappear; where that is so, the app says so. If we discontinue the service altogether, we will give reasonable notice by email so you can export or delete your data first.

9. Our rights in the software

Speech, its apps, its website, its name and its designs belong to Rupees. These terms give you permission to use the app for its intended purpose. They transfer no ownership to you.

10. Suspension and ending your account

You can leave whenever you like. Settings → Account → "Delete account & data" removes your account and everything stored for it, immediately and irreversibly. Delete your account sets out the one documented exception.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks section 5, that is running up cost in a way that is not a person dictating, or where the law requires it of us. Unless the abuse is doing active harm or we have no legal choice, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond first.

11. Third-party services

Speech relies on third parties to transcribe and format your speech, to send your sign-in codes, and to host the service. They are listed in the Privacy Policy. Optional integrations you connect yourself, a Google account for instance, are governed by that provider's own terms, and we are not responsible for their services.

12. Disclaimer

To the extent the law allows, Speech is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. None of that excludes rights you hold as a consumer which Indian law does not permit to be excluded.

13. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Rupees is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or business, arising out of your use of Speech, loss caused by a transcription error included.

Our total liability for all claims relating to Speech is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim, or five thousand rupees (Rs 5,000). Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes are notified by email or in the app before they take effect, and the "Last updated" date above changes with them. Continuing to use Speech after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, delete your account.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at Indore, Madhya Pradesh have exclusive jurisdiction, except that either of us may seek urgent injunctive relief wherever it is needed. Before starting proceedings, please email us: nearly everything is faster to fix than to litigate.
